three quick

Three quick:

1- Obi Wan Holovaty evidently did some teaching to the young ones at the Poynter Institute. And Drew DeVigal deliciously tagged the resource sheet.

2- Steve Outing breaks it: Jacksonville drops registration for viewing content! Yay!

Explaining the switch away from forced registration, a story by Wayne Ezell notes, “In a recent national study, 54 percent of Internet users surveyed by the Pew Internet and American Life Project said they had never registered at a Web site in order to obtain news or information. That is a group too large to ignore; its size is one reason newspapers are relaxing registration requirements.”

3- eBay bans Google Checkout in favor of their PayPal. For me this means good riddance to eBay and their inept, non-binding, funny money PayPal payment system! (I officially hate PayPal after several bad experiences and multiple friends getting burned similarly. I also can’t use it because I forgot my password 2 years ago and tried entering one too many times so rather than having me verify my credit card or address like everyone else on the planet. Instead they want me to send a birth certificate or DNA sample. Wtf is up with that. … eBay’s ok, but if they don’t want my money someone else will take it.)

Bonus! – Dude, did you hear Rocketboom broke up? … Could this get any more hype? ValleyWag is doing the best coverage I’ve seen… Maybe their snark is just my favorite flavor:

Marketwatch reporter Frank Barnako is so over Amanda Congdon. Apparently she’s hot? And apparently that’s part of the reason a viewer base made of middle-class men watched her? This is all news to me. [Frank Barnako]

They also showed the way to the Office Pirates parody… which is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in at least two weeks. Ugh. I really need to get some sleep.
