I think we all need to realize that most web surfers act like a babies on crack, with a severe case of ADD. (Which is another reason video is not going to be the ultimate salvation of newspapers.)

Innovation | Lessons from Apple
“Apple illustrates the importance of designing new products around the needs of the user, not the demands of the technology. Too many technology firms think that clever innards are enough to sell their products, resulting in gizmos designed by engineers for engineers. Apple has consistently combined clever technology with simplicity and ease of use.”
Fox Picks BrightCove For Online Video
“Starting immediately, Fox Broadcast Net, FX and Speed is available via ad-supported Internet video channels using Brightcove technology with more content to follow. Brightcove has existing agreements with CBS, Discovery, MTV Networks, National Geographic, Showtime, Rainbow Media, Buena Vista TV, Dow Jones, BSkyB and the New York Times, although none so far have been exclusive as this new deal is said to be.”
3G vs. Wi-Fi: The Battle Begins
“The battle between 3G and wi-fi for dominance of the wireless internet world will all come down to which offers the broadest benefits to individual users, analysts have predicted.”
Newspapers Should Embrace Online Aggregators
“Newspapers will also limit their growth by focusing only on their own content — the New York Times and many other mainstream media sites have embraced aggregation themselves, as blogs have done for years, by linking usefully to other sites, which only increases their value as a destination.”
Making the ‘24-hour newsroom’ work
“A fundamental challenge to making the 24-hour newsroom work is changing the existing newsroom culture. Anderson said the desire to become a breaking news organization again must begin at the top. A 24-hour newsroom will not be successful unless management is committed and resources are made available to staff.”
Editor and Publisher’s new feature on Web innovation

Revver Founder Launches Thoof: Personalized News Service
“The web is littered with failed or stagnant personalized news startups. New startup Thoof is going to give it a whirl and see if they can do better than the ones that have tried it before. The idea around personalized news: instead of showing stuff based on what an editor chooses (like this blog, or the Washington Post) or via some sort of community action (Digg, reddit), a user will see news items that the service thinks you will like, based on your past behavior compared to the community at large.”
YouTube Remixer: Edit Videos Online At YouTube
“The new feature is powered by Adobe Premiere Express and supports insertion of graphics, text and audio as well as overlays and in-video transitions. YouTube Remixer is nearly identical to Photobucket’s Remix tool; both are powered by Adobe.”

TV stations are finally getting into the web game! At least in entertainment sites, not video so much.
Harris Survey: Adult readers prefer online to print for daily news information
“Respondents also revealed the respondents’ concerns with the credibility of newspapers, something to consider for the future of both print and online news. Other suggested improvements include providing more research and representing more viewpoints, and raising the quality of writing an analysis.”
