Greg Sterling on Search Engine Journal reports “Gannett Buys Planet Discover Search Technology”

Enterprise search vendor Planet Discover was providing integrated search results to a growing number of newspaper sites (mixing content from various sections and the broader Internet). Among other sites, Planet Discover powers WickedLocalSearch.

Gannett operates more than 100 local newspaper websites and should be able to leverage Planet Discover’s search capabilities across those sites to offer a better user experience. That could drive more usage over time and potentially greater monetization of pages. Here’s more from Reuters. Terms were not disclosed.

Good move. PD search is pretty awesome, especially for newspapers that are overflowing with content and classified customers.
