Some of you may know this already, but I figured I might as well break this here and now before Hartnett scoops me on my own job announcement:
I’ve accepted a job at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as their new Interactive Director!
I’ve really been debating how to explain how I feel but as Derek said when he announced his NY Times move, everything I write sounds corny.
So basically, I’m mega stoked. (That’s not corny, is it?)
The PD has a really passionate, talented crew up there that I fell in love with. The city is a great Midwestern balance between Chicago and Toledo. The corporate parent generally has a hands-off approach on the PD website. Perhaps most influential: the paper’s leaders read Journerdism and love the awesome science I’m kickin’, so they want me to bring my vision there.
I’m very thankful for all the opportunities, friends, experiences and awesome colleagues I’ve had in Florida at both TCPalm / Scripps Newspapers and The Palm Beach Post / Cox Newspapers but I had to jump on this opportunity. (Ok, this is totally corny. But true.)
Being a Cubs fan in Cardinals land is going to be rough but if that’s the hardest thing about this new gig, I’ll be just fine. STL, here I come. (I start in January, btw.)
Now I must get back to judging the NAA Media Innovation Awards before the quickly-approaching deadline this week.
Onward and upward.
Will
P.S. Know any rockstar developers? Shoot me an email at: will (at) journerdism.com. We’re going to have a lot of awesome opportunities in St. Louis, from a redesign to some very special niche projects.
P.P.S. Wanna buy a 2 bed, 2 bath condo 5 mins from the beach in beautiful, sunny, Stuart Florida!? Motivated seller!

Echoing everyone else, congratulations. I know you’ll do well.

Ah, so it was PD Pie you chose to go with! Excellent choice, although you are giving up your spot in the flow of ridiculous only-in-Florida stories, and I certainly hope the “0-16: An interactive timeline” graphic is done before you leave.
Congratulations. Sounds like a great gig.

Will, great news for you. Congratulations. This is a big deal.
It’s an even bigger deal for PD. Whoever was smart enough to make the final hiring decision on you deserves a big round of applause.

Someone has to drop a little truth on this back-slapping parade. This guy has been phoning it in for years! Most weekdays he can’t even be bothered to descend from his beach-front penthouse, where he guzzles champagne like water and fritters away the millions he earns from his vast splog empire on online poker. On those rare days when does swing by the office, he locks himself in his top-floor, glass-walled, ocean-view corner office, where he plays garbage bin basketball with balled up 500 Euro notes and smokes illegally imported Cuban cigars lit with his latest paycheck, which he opens only to amuse himself while cackling a properly villainous cackle. Good luck with this guy, you arch-building, riverside-living Midwesterners!
I kid, I kid. Will, the Post-Dispatch is lucky to have you. Of course, that doesn’t mean that I don’t still consider you dead to me.

Congrats, man. Florida seems lame now!
P.S. I hope you’re transporting your belongings by mule cart. It’s the best way to take in the countryside.
P.P.S. I love you no matter where you are!
P.P.P.S. Kansas City should be really cool.

Congratulations! This means I’ll have to give you a shout when I go visit my folks in Rolla, Mo.

Late to the party, but congrats. St. Louis is a great town. The local beer sucks — the name escapes me now, but it has something to do with clydesdales. But hey, you can’t win them all.

you rock.

Congrats! What exactly does an Interactive Director do? And what kinds of positions are you looking for?
It’s a crazy time in journalism.
November 30, 2007 at 12:52 pm
Rock on Will! Florida is just a little less sunshine-y now… Sigh.
December 1, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Leaving Florida? Are you crazy? (Aw, congrats, man.)
December 2, 2007 at 12:42 am
Wish you were staying, but wish you the best . . .
December 3, 2007 at 8:34 am
Woohoo! Way to go! Admit it, you were missing the frigid temperatures
December 10, 2007 at 12:01 am
I realized the fishing isn’t the same up this way after I left my panhandle gig. Oh well. Congrats!
December 10, 2007 at 10:50 am
