I've definitely seen similar situations. Actually, I think of all the kids I went to grad school with... there's about only half a dozen of us still in online journalism (out of about 20 students). That term stuck around VCS.com for long time, long after he left to go on and make six figures as a Internet guru for a credit union. That was a job he got because in his off time, he taught himself programming.
