Internet meme tag games. I’m not usually much a fan of these things, but Time magazine said this year was all about me (well, “you” or.. whatever.. ) Howard tagged me before I think it’s totally jumped the shark, so I’ll share.
5 things you probably don’t know about me:
1 – I have a resume design fetish.
2 – I used to fuel aircraft. During undergrad, to pay the school bills and such, I worked third shift at Toledo Express Airport as a Fuel Service Technician driving a 10,000-gallon Jet A fuel tanker truck to dispensing dino juice to DC-8s, 727s and 747s.
3 – September 12, 2001 was my first day working at my college paper and the turning point in my career when I decided to recommit to journalism. (Long story… uh… Abridged version: Back in high school after leaving the school paper, I ran an underground newspaper called, “Awakening” and the school fuzz found out and busted us a couple times. Eventually I gave up after they threatened expulsion and shut it down. I later set up a dial-up BBS site called “Rant and Rage” but it was no where near as widespread. A couple years later I went to college and abandoned journalism in pursuit of a mechanical engineering degree… until Sept 12 got me hooked back on the ‘junk’.)
4 , – I have a red belt black tab in Tae Kwon Do (which is one test and $125 away from earning a black belt). I gave up Tae Kwon Do to play football and have regretted it since…. especially since everyone asks “How close to a black belt was that?” and I have to explain to them, like a douchebag, what I am explaining right now to you.
5 – I change my own oil, really love working with cars and DIY mechanical things with my hands (I LOVE MAKE Magazine). My biggest accomplishment in this arena was restoring a Datsun 280z about 7 years ago.
Rex, Ryan, Sanchez, Murley & Sloan / Thompson … I’m looking at you.

Egad. I never got past yellow belt. Then again, I was 6. Then again, I’m headed for the beach in Venezuela, so I’ll get to this in a couple days. Does that count as two things out of five?

Thanks everyone for your comments!
I should probably clarify that by fetish, I don’t mean I have sex with resumes… I’m just really into how such a restrictive and classically formated document can be designed and made a little more unique. I have a folder of more than 100 examples on file. I’m kinda really into typography too…
